家のネコは真っ暗闇の森に平気で出かけて行く。狸やキツネ、鹿、ムササビ、何が居るか分からない、そんな森に。

　何かに出合ったら、一目散に走って逃げてくる。決して出合ったらどうしようと思うことはないようだ。

　野良猫は車が往来する道に平気で飛び出す。無事で居られるかどうかは運次第だろう。

 　動物には想像力がないのだと言いたいところだが、どうも動物だけでは無く、一部の人間にも想像力は欠けているように思う。

　信号のない交差点をスピードを落とさずに通過する車をよく見かける。子どもが飛び出すかもしれない、自転車が飛び出すかもしれないとは考えないのだろうか。

 　今回の新型コロナウィルスの問題でも、この想像力のなさを感じることがある。「自分はコロナウィルスに感染してもかまわない」という発言を聞く。あなたが構わなくても、あなたから感染する人のこと、あなたを治療するために医療従事者が何人も奪われて、他の人の治療に当たれないかもしれない。そのようなことは考えないのだろうか。

 　想像力を働かせて欲しいと思うが、想像力はどこで磨かれるのだろうか。知識偏重の教育ではその役目は果たせないだろう。自分の取った行動の先に起こること、自分と同じような行動をとる人が多く居たら社会はどうなるのか。

 　これからの教育では、想像力を働かせてディスカッションするような教育が求められるだろう。自分だけでは想像出来なかったことを他の人から聞くこともできることも想像力の幅を広げることだろう。

 　知識の多い人より想像力を働かせて行動する人間に知性を感じるのは私だけだろうか。

The cat living at home would go out into the pitch-black forest without any hesitation. No one knows what kind of animals might live there: raccoons, foxes, deer, and flying squirrels.

If they meet something dangerous, they immediately run back at a glance. They don’t seem to have imagined how to handle the situation when they encounter something new.

The stray cats often jump onto the roads where cars come and go. It depends on their luck whether they will survive or not.

It makes me want to say that animals don’t have imagination.  But unfortunately, I think that not only animals but some humans lack imagination.

I often see some cars passing through intersections without traffic lights at full speed. Do they ever think about children or bicycles that might jump out?

I am feeling this lack of imagination through this Coronavirus problem. I hear some words like “I don’t mind if I get Coronavirus.” Even if you don’t care, there is a possibility that you will infect others. The health care workers might have to treat you instead of others who really need the care. I wonder if they ever imagine that.

I wish they could use their imagination skills, but at the same time I wonder where people can develop and improve their imagination. Knowledge-based education will not be able to fulfill this role. What will happen to society if there are many people who take the same actions as me?

In the future, the education world will be required to develop imagination skills through activities such as discussions. Listening to others’ opinions or ideas that you did not have will also become an important skill to spread your imagination.

Am I the only one who feels intelligence from a person who can act using their imagination skills rather than a knowledgeable person?
